Make Den Brasa winterproof!

Den Brasa winterfest machen! - Asamodo

Unfortunately, winter is approaching us rapidly. Some of you are probably wondering how to best prepare the Brasa for its (short) winter sleep. Additionally, our CEO and Chief Asador Raid has some more care tips for you in this blog article:

1. Tip: Make flash rust disappear:

Almost no remedy exists against surface rust. It doesn't always have to rain for steel to rust. The good news is: the Brasa is made of solid steel (ST37). Surface rust can't harm it if you follow a few tips.
The best way is to rub corners and edges, as well as the flap (especially from the inside), with some oil, and a really thin oil film will form on it, so that moisture can no longer reach the metal and therefore no rust can form.

Raid also writes in an article on the topic of rust:
"I tested it in a small self-experiment: I deliberately left my Brasa outside in some rain, then rust formed on the flap (of course!). I then rubbed the flap with oil to remove the rust (a paper towel is completely sufficient). As hoped, this created a proper thin film so that moisture no longer touches the metal. Afterwards, I left it standing again for an unspecified time. And lo and behold - it's perfect - the moisture beads off and no new rust forms."

Tip 2: the cover hood

Under no circumstances leave Den Brasa outside in winter without a cover (or protective roof) and store it preferably in a dry place.

3rd tip: Complete cleaning & rubbing in with oil

At the end of the season, everyone should thoroughly clean their grill. That means: clean it completely once with warm water and soap (by hand, not with a pressure washer or garden hose). Then let it dry completely and then rub it with oil, so that it is optimally protected against rust. You can use either regular vegetable oil (rapeseed or sunflower oil) or release spray

A few more helpful recommendations for before and after grilling:

1. When starting the grill / seasoning, the flap should also be lightly oiled from the inside. This creates an even more effective protection for the paint.
2. After each grilling, it is best to briefly rub the grill with a light film of oil (ideally while it is still slightly warm).
3. Right at the very beginning, especially after purchase, take care of the paint. Our manufacturer has assured us that the UHT paint adheres better and better to the metal after warming up and cooling down several times. So especially at the beginning, make sure that no scratches, etc. occur.

The general cleaning of the grill in 10 steps:

To ensure your grill looks flawless and continues to work well in the coming years, you should definitely take these tips to heart:

1. The grill should be cleaned before the first use and after each grilling session.

2. To improve the grilling process, remove the accumulated ash and old charcoal from the bottom of the grill before using the grill. Also, make sure that all the charcoal is completely extinguished and the grill has cooled down so that nothing can reignite.

3. If your grill is exposed to a particularly harsh environment, you will probably need to clean the exterior more often. Acid rain, chemicals, and saltwater can cause rust on the surface. We recommend wiping the exterior of the grill with warm soapy water and then rubbing it with oil.

4. Especially at the beginning, when the paint is still new, do not use sharp objects or abrasive cleaners to clean the surfaces of the grill

5. The individual modules can partly be cleaned in standard dishwashers. However, it is best to remove all coarse grill residues beforehand to prevent clogging of the dishwasher.

6. If you use the woks, pans, or other items made of cast iron or steel from us, it is recommended to perform a rough cleaning with hot water after use. Finally, also apply a thin layer of sunflower or rapeseed oil to the pans using a paper towel.

7. The grill should not be left outside without a cover.

8. Do not use a high-pressure cleaner or garden hose to clean the grill.

9. If the coating peels off due to heat, rapeseed oil (or a similar product) can be applied to the spot while hot. This will burn in darkly and protect against corrosion.

10. Do not pour liquids onto the hot grill surface, as this can damage the fireclay bricks.

If you follow all these tips, nothing can happen to your grill anymore. It will then be winter-proof and so well maintained that it will last you a lifetime and bring you great joy every year anew!
